The fires in Lakeside kicking up again...

Firestorm 2003

This was the most devastating fire (or any tragedy, for that matter) that I have been through.  I have many friends who were evacuated, and many who lost their homes.  At one point the fire was about a mile from me and I chose to evacuate Santee when the power went out for a second time.  I went to my mother's home in Lakeside only to find out an hour later that Crest was on fire, just three miles from where she lives.  With Hwys 8, 67, 52, 15, 163 & 805 all closed to traffic and the fire surrounding us on the North, East and West sides within only a few miles we were very worried.  The fires to the south were a few miles away, but were approaching.  The photos above will show you a glimpse of what I have witnessed for the past 36 hours.  I'm back at home, but we are all still on watch.  Pray for rain...
